UT Permian Basin alum, Ethan Ward is returning home to Odessa after landing a job as Assistant Orchestra Director at Permian High School.

UTPB band studentEthan graduated from UT Permian Basin in May 2021 with his bachelor’s degree in music. While at UTPB, Ethan embedded himself in student life and in the music program. He was an orientation leader, student organizations coordinator, member of the student senate, member of the men’s choir, symphony orchestra, member of the marching band, wind ensemble, and the Pep Band. His last two years on campus, he directed the UTPB Band.

Ethan said he would encourage anyone to choose UTPB not only because of the endless amounts of opportunities but also because of the affordability.

“I earned my degree and was able to experience so many things all without accruing debt! UTPB is a great University! The administration, staff, and professors all work tirelessly to make sure the student experience is top notch.”

Before landing his new gig at Permian, Ethan worked in McCamey doing several different roles including directing the middle school band, and teaching at the elementary school.

In addition to his role as the Associate Orchestra Director at Permian Highschool, Ethan will direct the Philharmonic Orchestra, assisting with Sating Strings and Symphony Orchestra. The Head Director and Ethan will be teaching the Freshman Ensemble as well as visiting and assisting the middle school orchestra programs. He will also be teaching the 5th grade string programs.
