A former University of Texas Permian Basin student has turned his education into immediate career success after graduating in December 2024 with a Bachelor's in Energy Land Management.
Born in Andrews and raised in Odessa, Damien Wright chose UTPB because of its proximity and academic offerings.
“I chose UTPB because it was located near me and after further research, the programs that were offered piqued my interest,” Wright shared.
For Wright, the journey to earning his degree was not without challenges.
“I would describe my time at UTPB as challenging at times but ultimately rewarding,” he said.
Despite the difficulties, he is already reaping the benefits.
“A degree in land management means the world to me,” Wright expressed. “Just one day after graduation I already received job offers.”
The Energy Land Management program at UTPB equips students with the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in the energy sector, and this graduate is determined to leverage his education and experience for a brighter future.
“I plan to utilize my degree along with my years of experience in the oilfield to hopefully earn a leadership position in the oilfield,” he explained.
Wright encouraged others to consider the program, emphasizing the advantages it provides.
“I would encourage others to get a degree in Energy Land Management from UTPB because the quality of life on the office side of the oilfield is far better than the quality of life on the field side,” he said.
Grateful for the support he received at UTPB, Wright expressed special appreciation for a key mentor.
“I would just like to thank UTPB for offering the Energy Land Management program and I would also like to thank Professor Harrell for being an amazing advisor and creating a nurturing environment that promotes success,” he added.
