Chief Tom Hain
Chief Tom Hain is a native to West Texas having grown up in Big Spring, Texas. He attended the Permian Basin Regional Police Academy as a member of the Big Spring Police Department in 1985 and continued as an officer until 1992.
Chief Hain moved his family to Odessa where he joined the Odessa Police Department. During his tenure with Odessa PD, he served in the Community Relations Bureau supporting Community Policing initiatives and teaching the D.A.R.E. program.
Chief Hain seized the opportunity to advance his career as the Chief Deputy for the Reagan County Sheriff's Office in 2000.
Chief Hain was later named the Chief of Police in Page, Arizona, where he remained from 2003 until 2008. During his tenure as Chief of Police, he attended the prestigious FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Under his leadership, Page Police Department saw substantial increases in the number of personnel for the department, patrol officers' salaries/training, and updated equipment.
In January 2008, Chief Hain was offered the position of Chief of Police of the UTPB Police Department. He hopes his 32 years of law enforcement experience will help lead the department through the many changes that are taking place at the University.
In 2016, Chief Hain was named The University of Texas System Police "Chief of the Year".
