Student being mentored

Mentoring at UT Permian Basin

Get paired with a mentor, become a better student. It’s that simple.

The UTPB Mentoring Program is available, for free, to any first-year student. You’ll be paired with a Peer Mentor—a more experienced student who understands your situation, goals, and challenges. They’ll answer your questions, connect you with the campus, and share their wisdom.

What Mentorship Means

Peer Mentors will help you:

  • Adjust successfully to a college lifestyle
  • Apply for financial aid and scholarships
  • Manage your time better
  • Set specific goals and create a plan to achieve them
  • Cope with stress more productively
  • Study better
  • Find new interests and social connections

What’s Expected of You

Peer Mentors want to support you—to help you make the most of your time at UT Permian Basin. They make it possible, you make it happen. If you join our Mentorship Program, you’re expected to:

  • Meet with your Peer Mentor weekly (built in study-buddy)
  • Communicate with your Peer Mentor regularly (shoot them a text!)
  • Attend study sessions monthly (group math is more fun!)
  • Complete your assigned tutoring hours (bring your coffee)
  • Be honest and do your best possible work (you’ll be glad you did)
