Mechanical Engineering Master's Degree

Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME)

The MSME programs offers thesis and non-thesis options with flexible course times for fulltime students and part-time working professionals. It is anticipated that the degree may be completed in two years of full time graduate study. To earn the MSME degree, students must complete 30 credit hours for the thesis option and 36 credit hours for the non-thesis option. A cumulative grade point average of 3.0 for the courses listed in the Plan for Study is required. 

The MSME program also offers an Accelerated Master's Program for qualified undergraduate students currently enrolled at UTPB can earn both a bachelor of science and master of science in mechanical engineering in just five years.

Masters in Mechanical Engineering Admission Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited program;
  • GPA of 3.0 or better in the last 60 credit hours of upper-level coursework.

Additional Academic Requirements Students may be required to audit: Dynamics, Mechanics of Materials, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics I, Heat Transfer, Mechanical Design Required to audit any of the listed courses with a grade lower than C (2.0); international grades will be converted
Other Requirements Statement of purpose explaining background and program alignment Statement of purpose; minimum of two years’ work experience in ME; two letters of recommendation verifying experience
