How to Complete Entrance Counseling, Master Promissory Note, & Endorse a Direct Plus Loan

If you are a new borrower at UTPB (including transfer students), you must complete Federal Direct Loan Entrance Counseling and Federal Direct Loan Master Promissory Note.

Parents who are requesting a PLUS loan to help pay for the education of their dependent undergraduate child must complete a Direct Plus loan Master Promissory Note. Parents must complete a separate PLUS MPN for each dependent child.

Someone who agrees to repay a Direct PLUS Loan if the borrower doesn't repay the loan is considered an endorser (similar to a cosigner) and must complete the Endorse a Direct PLUS Loan process.

Exit Counseling

Exit counseling provides important information you need to prepare to repay your federal student loan(s). If you have received a subsidized, unsubsidized, or PLUS loan under the Direct Loan Program or the Federal Family Educational Loan (FFEL) Program, you must complete exit counseling each time you:

  • drop below half-time enrollment;
  • graduate; or
  • leave school.

At the end of the exit counseling session, you will be asked for information that will be included as part of your loan records. You must provide the following information:

  • Names, addresses, e-mail addresses and phone numbers for:
    • your next of kin; and
    • two references who live in the U.S.

To complete exit counseling, you will need the following:

  • Approximately 20-30 minutes to complete
  • Your FSA ID
  • Details on your future income, financial aid, and living expenses if known
  • Name(s) of the school(s) you wish to notify of counseling completion
