Cost of Attendance - (COA) is the estimated cost for a typical student to attend UTPB. COA includes estimated tuition and fees, as well as other basic living expenses. COA is used, along with your Expected Family Contribution, to calculate your financial aid awards.
Tuition & Fees - are assessed to students carrying the same academic workload and vary by institution.
- Tuition - is part of the tuition rates which are set by Texas Legislature and UT System Board of Regents. We have Statutory and designated tuition.
- One-time Fees - examples: Freshmen and Transfer Orientation fees.
- Mandatory - examples: Advising, Athletics, Technology, Library Services, Student Services, Multipurpose Center & Medical Service.
- Varies - examples: Distant education, Lab/Course fees, Online Program fees.
- Non-Mandatory Fees - examples: Student ID, Add/Drop fee, parking fee, property deposit, housing and books.
Living Expenses - are food and housing costs determined by the institution and paid by students attending the institution on at least a half-time basis. See housing and dining options at UTPB.
- Standard Food Allowances - Standard food allowances must include three meals each day, regardless of whether a student chooses institutionally owned or operated food services (i.e., board or meal plans) or off-campus options. See meal plan options.
- Students Living On Campus - Housing allowances for students residing in institutionally owned or operated housing with or without dependents must be based on the average or median amount assessed to such residents for housing charges, whichever is greater. See housing options.
- Students Living Off Campus - Housing allowances for students living off campus must include rent or other housing costs.
- For dependent students living at home with parents, institutions must include a reasonable standard allowance for living expenses that is not zero.
- For students living in housing on a military base or for which they receive a basic allowance under section 403(b) of title 37, United States Code, institutions must include a reasonable allowance for food on-campus or off-campus but cannot include housing costs.
- For all other students, institutions must include a reasonable allowance based on expenses incurred by such students.
Books, Course materials, Supplies & Equipment - This allowance for books, course materials, and equipment is identical for students in the same program. It also includes a reasonable allowance for the rental or purchase of a personal computer.
Transportation - This is an allowance to travel between campus, your residence, and your place of work.
Personal Expenses - This misc. variable allowance is applicable if you attend UTPB on at least a half-time basis. For example, personal care products.
