"Proud of Garrett and all of his accomplishments this season. He truly battled back this past season to achieve another goal he wanted," said Head Coach Cam Kainer. "While he wasn't able to complete both boards at nationals, we were proud of his representation at the national meet. We are proud of him for becoming the first All-American in team history."
Martin had a tremendous 2019-20 season, reaching the NCAA Semifinals before having the event canceled due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The sophomore qualified for the event in both the 1- and 3-meter events.
"Even though our season was cut short at NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Garrett did a fabulous job this year," said Diving Coach Jennifer Mangum. "He's made a tremendous comeback from open heart surgery to not only qualify for the event but finish in the top nine in the nation on both boards at the qualifying meet. Receiving the honor of All-American seems very fitting for the work that he has put in this year. I am very proud of Garrett and honored to be his coach."
Martin is also the school's record holder in both diving events.
"Despite the cancellation of the NCAA Championships, Coach Kainer and Mangum did a remarkable job this season," explained Greg Earhart, Executive Director of the CSCAA. Garrett had the rug pulled out from him this season, so we are excited to recognize him as one of the nation's best."
