Dr. Frank Eychaner came to UTPB in the fall of 2014. At that time there were nine singers registered for one choir.

Since that time, the program has grown exponentially in both size and quality. There are now five ensembles at the University: Chamber choir for the most advanced and serious choral musicians, Concert Choir for singers from across the University community, Men’s and Women’s choirs that draw their membership from the Concert Choir and the newest addition, the Vocal Ensemble that presents opera and musical theater productions each semester. All music majors at UTPB are studying to earn their music teaching certification.

With scholarships that attracts the best and most capable vocal musicians in West Texas, the highest quality music education available and the world class performance experiences that are offered, the Music program at UTPB is quickly realizing their goal to place a high quality music educator in every music classroom in West Texas.Major milestones in the program include performances in Carnegie Hall in 2018, singing Tosca for Midland Opera Theatre company, representing the United States at the Tlaxcala Cantat in Mexico in fall 2018 and annual tours. The choirs have been invited to represent the US at the Festival Internacional de Coros Santiago de Cuba in fall 2019. There will be thirty vocal music majors at UTPB in the fall of 2019.
