Dr. Jessica Garrett began her teaching career in December of 1991 in Midland ISD as a Special Education teacher at Bowie Elementary School. She also taught 5th grade Language Arts and Social Studies, and then took a job at DeZavala Elementary a self-contained teacher of those with extensive intellectual limitations. After five and a half years in the classroom, she was awarded a position at Rusk Elementary School as an administrative intern. She completed her Master’s degree at UTPB in May of 1997. In 2001 she moved to Huntsville, Texas to accept a principal position in Anderson-Shiro CISD. During that time, she started her doctorate at Sam Houston State University. Soon after, she accepted a position in Willis ISD. She worked in Willis until 2007, when she accepted a position at Sam Houston State University as a clinical instructor and accreditation coordinator. She graduated with her Doctorate in May of 2004. In 2010, she accepted a position at UTPB and was able to move back home. Dr. Garrett currently serves as the Department Chair of Educational Leadership and Counseling and as Vice President of the Faculty Senate.
