Dr. Alanna Dennison accepts appointment to the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) Education Committee.

The University of Texas Permian Basin’s Dr. Alanna Dennison has been appointed to the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) Education Committee. This honor will enable Dr. Dennison to advance the mission and strategic priorities of the CAATE.   

The purpose of the Education Committee is to identify, recommend, and support the educational activities of the CAATE. This includes Accreditation Conference sessions, educational opportunities for program directors, clinical education coordinators, and other program personnel at all levels of accreditation. As a part of the Education Committee, Dr. Dennison will be responsible for keeping the CAATE President apprised of substantive issues under consideration by the Committee. 

About Dr. Alanna Dennison 

alanna-dennison-headshot.jpgDr. Dennison serves as the Academic Chair of the Department of Human Performance in UT Permian Basin’s College of Health Sciences and Human Performance (CoHSHP). She also serves as CoHSHP’s athletic training program director and assistant professor.   

Originally hailing from Whitecourt, Alberta, Canada, Dr. Dennison began her career in athletic training at Missouri State University in Springfield, MO, where she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. She earned her Master of Education from Central Methodist University in Fayette, MO while working as a graduate assistant athletic trainer, and then transitioned into a faculty role in athletic training education. Her passion for education and advancing the profession led her to the Doctor of Athletic Training program at A.T. Still University.   

Dr. Dennison is committed to innovative approaches to athletic training education and expanding employment opportunities in athletic training. Her research interests include retention of athletic trainers and athletic training students and academic success in athletic training.   

Dr. Dennison resides in Garden City, TX with her dogs, chickens, cats, and horses, enjoys competing in and providing athletic training coverage at rodeos, and trains barrel racing horses as a hobby.

The vision of CAATE is advancing clinical practice and improving health care outcomes through promotion of excellence in athletic training education.
