- Faces of UTPB: Celebrating Our Hispanic-Serving Institution Status
The University of Texas Permian Basin is proud to be recognized as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI)—a designation awarded to universities with a Hispanic/Latino student population of at least 25%. At UTPB, an impressive 51% of our student body identifies as Hispanic/Latino. This recognition is more than just a number—it represents our deep commitment to supporting the success of Hispanic students both in their educational journeys and beyond.
As an HSI, UTPB is uniquely positioned to offer additional financial resources and support systems that directly benefit our students. One notable example is the $4.9 million HSI STEM grant awarded by the Department of Education. This grant is aimed at increasing enrollment, improving retention, raising graduation rates, and enhancing career placement opportunities, especially for students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
As the University continues to grow, we are committed to ensuring that our Hispanic students have the tools and opportunities to become life-long learners and successful professionals.
