"The Student-Made Store is a testament to how universities can support a broader range of student talent and prepare them for success in the innovation workforce."
The University of Texas Permian Basin continues to shine as a hub of student innovation and entrepreneurship. This November, UTPB’s groundbreaking initiative, Student-Made, will take center stage at the Association of University Research Parks (AURP) Annual Meeting in Bentonville, Arkansas, from November 11-14, 2024.
The event will feature a presentation by Dr. Brian Shedd, Executive Director of UTPB's Office of Innovation and Commercialization, and Lindsay Reeth, co-founder of Student-Made.
UTPB partnered with Student-Made and launched the UT Permian Basin Student-Made Store as an online marketplace designed to foster entrepreneurship for creative students. This campus Etsy-like program provides a platform for artists, makers, and creators to sell their original works, often bridging the gap for students overlooked by traditional entrepreneurship programs.
This initiative not only empowers students to showcase and monetize their talents but also aligns with UTPB’s broader mission to support student innovation and entrepreneurial growth.
The invitation to present at the AURP Annual Meeting marks a significant milestone for Student-Made. AURP, a professional association for research parks and innovation districts, includes members who are leaders in technology development and academic entrepreneurship. Presenting alongside some of the top minds in research commercialization demonstrates UTPB’s commitment to fostering innovation, not just in STEM fields but across creative disciplines as well.
Dr. Shedd notes, "Vibrant student entrepreneurship programs are essential to connect research commercialization activities at universities with the students who will become the innovators and entrepreneurs of tomorrow. The Student-Made Store is a testament to how universities can support a broader range of student talent and prepare them for success in the innovation workforce."
