"At UTPB, we are committed to equipping our students with the skills and credentials that give them a competitive edge in today’s job market."
In an initiative designed to enhance workforce readiness and meet the growing demands of Texas’ job market, The University of Texas Permian Basin has successfully integrated Google Career Certificates into its academic curriculum. This collaboration is part of the broader Texas Credential of the Future initiative led by The University of Texas System.

UTPB has embedded Google Career Certificates into over five of its for-credit courses, giving students a competitive edge by pairing their degrees with industry-recognized credentials. These certificates contribute up to 20% of the academic credit awarded in selected courses, ensuring that students not only gain theoretical knowledge but also develop practical, job-ready skills.

Key courses include the Google IT Support Certificate, which is integrated into the Management Information Systems course (MNGT 3333); the Google Data Analytics Certificate, featured in Digital Marketing Analytics (MRKT 4304); and the Google Project Management Certificate, a vital component of the Project Management Elements course (MNGT 4307), required for all Management majors.

"At UTPB, we are committed to equipping our students with the skills and credentials that give them a competitive edge in today’s job market," said Raj Dakshinamurthy, UTPB Provost. "By integrating Google Career Certificates into our curriculum, we are ensuring that students graduate with both a degree and industry-recognized credentials, making them workforce-ready from day one."

The impact of this program has been significant. A survey conducted by The University of Texas System revealed that the majority of participants view micro credentials as highly relevant to their career goals. Across the UT System, over 1,200 students, alumni, faculty, and staff have completed a Google Career Certificate since the program’s inception.

This integration is part of UTPB’s commitment to student success and addressing workforce needs, particularly in high-demand fields such as IT, project management, and data analytics. Through initiatives like these, UTPB continues to uphold its mission of preparing students to thrive in their professional endeavors.
