Chief McKown brings more than 30 years of law enforcement experience, with a strong background in both school-based and community policing.

The University of Texas Permian Basin is proud to announce that Scott McKown, currently serving as Chief of Police for Midland Independent School District (MISD), has been named the next Chief of Police for UTPB. He will officially begin his new role on May 14, 2025.

“We are thrilled to welcome Chief McKown back to UTPB,” said UT Permian Basin President Sandra Woodley. “His extensive experience and thoughtful approach to public safety make him a great fit for our University. We look forward to the leadership and care he will bring to our campus.”

Chief McKown holds both a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences in Business and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration from UT Permian Basin.
