Students Attend UTIMCO Event
“I got to network with people from the companies that every finance graduate dreams of working at."

Two UTPB students had the opportunity to attend The University of Texas/Texas A&M Investment Management Company (UTIMCO) Scholars Program in Austin. The goal of the program is to make the financial sector more accessible to driven students of all backgrounds.

The students were part of a group of 50 that met with professionals from eight firms including BlackRock, PIMCO, Tripost Capital, Dimensional Fund Advisors, Alliance Bernstein, Brevan Howard, and JP Morgan.

“We got the chance to hear their insights about working in investment management and what it takes to be successful in this field.  We also got the chance to visit Dimensional Fund Advisors Austin HQ, to see what goes on in day-to-day operations of an Investment Management firm,” said UTPB international student Raonak Hossain, studying to receive his masters in finance.

At the event, Hossain met with brilliant students from universities across Texas. They heard panel discussions about career paths at different firms, mock interviews, and had networking opportunities.

Hossain says for him, networking was the best part as he’s usually an introvert, but had the chance to share his story.

“I got to network with people from the companies that every finance graduate dreams of working at. Knowing about their journey gave me reassurance that it's alright to not have everything worked out or planned. It's best to experiment and pursue what resonates with me the most,” said Hossain.

He says the experience boosted his confidence and made him interested in attending similar events in the future. His favorite thing about UTPB so far is the supportive culture.

“Being an international student and being so far from home, I have always found my way around here with help from people on campus. I found a welcoming and supportive environment here at UTPB and I loved that UTPB is always eager in supporting and celebrating its students in every way,” said Hossain.
