“UTPB is a university with tremendous momentum and opportunity, and I look forward to working alongside faculty, staff, students, and community partners. I am especially excited to listen, learn, and collaborate as we strengthen our programs and create meaningful opportunities for our students," said Dr. Martin-Long.
The University of Texas Permian Basin has named Dr. Kim Martin-Long as the new Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities. With more than two decades of experience in higher education and academic leadership, Dr. Martin-Long brings extensive experience in the liberal arts, strategic planning, curriculum development, faculty leadership, and institutional innovation to UTPB.
Dr. Martin-Long began her academic career as a faculty member at Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania, where she served as a Professor of English and English Education and Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. She later transitioned into academic leadership, serving as a Dean at several institutions and leading colleges through strategic planning, curricular innovation, organizational change, and faculty development.
As Founding Dean of the School of Business and Humanities at Delaware Valley University, Dr. Martin-Long oversaw programs in the liberal arts, education, criminal justice, and business. During her tenure, she established a small business development center, restructured the university’s post-baccalaureate education program, and led a comprehensive revision of general education.
Dr. Martin-Long later served as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Education, and Human Development at the University of New Orleans, where she led the newly combined college through strategic planning, leadership development, and curricular innovation. During her six years as Dean, she helped establish a Ph.D. program in Justice Studies, contributed to core curriculum revision, and recruited senior faculty to lead key academic areas, including seven research centers.
“I am honored to join The University of Texas Permian Basin as the new Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities,” Dr. Martin-Long said. “UTPB is a university with tremendous momentum and opportunity, and I look forward to working alongside faculty, staff, students, and community partners.
