TSIA2 Assessment

If you were not enrolled in a Texas public institution of higher education prior to August 22, 2013 or are not exempt from TSIA 2, you MUST take this exam. Prior TSI exams, older than five years, are no longer accepted. 

The purpose of this test is to measure a student’s readiness for college-level course work. The Texas Success Initiative assessment (TSIA 2) Program is mandated by state law and requires all students attending a public institution of higher education to prove they are ready to take entry-level college courses which require reading, writing and math skills. By law, the TSIA 2 Assessment, exemptions, and passing scores are the same at every public institution of higher education in Texas. Please make sure you are prepared to take this TSIA 2 Assessment. 

The test is computer-based and must be administered in a proctored environment at a college testing center. 

For students who are outside of the Permian Basin area: There are two ways you can take the TSIA 2 at a place other than UT Permian Basin. You may take it at a certified Testing Center as a Remote Administration, or you may be able to take it from home through a Virtual Administration. 

Students are required to take the PAA before taking the TSIA2. This is a state law. Once you take the PAA, please send your completion certificate to testingcenter@utpb.edu.  

There are two sections of the TSIA2 that students may be required to take: ELAR + Essay and Mathematics. 

• If you are exempt from Math, please register for: ELAR & Essay (English portion) 
• If you are exempt from English, please register for: Math Only 
• If you are re-taking the TSIA2, you are eligible to take: Math Only, ELAR + Essay, or ELAR Multiple Choice (Retest ONLY). 

If you have questions about what sections you must take, contact Admissions or your Advisor. Testing Services cannot tell you which sections you must take. 

Fees for taking the TSIA2 range from $28.50-$58.50 and must be paid at the time of registration. 

Test takers are required to bring a valid photo ID for this exam. Examples of acceptable IDs include: driver’s license, passport, or a recent school ID with a photo. 

To register to take the TSI, please visit www.registerblast.com/utpb to make your appointment. Payment is required at the time of registration. 

Note: Accuplacer will send you a link to your score report via the email you used to register for the TSIA2. You will only have 30 days to access this score report, so be sure to save a copy of your scores, just in case you need them again. 

If you would like to take the TSIA2 at a Testing Center that is closer to you, that is entirely possible. Go to www.registerblast.com/utpb and register for “TSIA2 - To be taken @ a different University”. 

If you have taken the TSIA2 at another university, you can send your TSI score report to UTPB using the Authorization to Release TSIA2 Scores form. 

Virtual Proctoring is provided through our contracted service, Examity. Remote Vouchers are generated manually, so please allow up to 3 business days to receive your voucher after we receive your PAA Certification. 

To take a TSI Assessment through a virtual proctor, you will need to complete several steps: 

1. Check your equipment. Examity system requirements are: 
   1. Desktop computer or laptop (tablets, Chromebook and cell phones do not meet our requirements) 
   2. A working built-in or external webcam and microphone 
   3. Internet speed must be at least 2 Mbps download and 2 Mbps upload. Hot spots are not recommended. Test internet speed at: http://www.speedtest.net.  
   4. Browser with pop-up blocker disabled 
   5. If you have any questions or concerns, you can email support@examity.com. 
2. Register for your remote TSIA2 exam via RegisterBlast. Payment is required at the time of registration. 
3. Complete the online TSIA 2 Pre-Assessment Activity. 
4. Once you receive our voucher via email, book and pay for your proctoring service for the exam through Examity. Be aware that your voucher expires in 30 days, and there is an additional fee through Examity to reschedule your exam. If your voucher expires, you will have to pay for a new one. 
5. When your test is completed, your test session is subject to a 3-day auditing process to ensure test integrity. After your session has been reviewed and approved by the auditor, your scores will be available in Accuplacer.
