Program Status
UT Permian Basin's School of Nursing is fully approved by the Texas Board of Nursing. The School's cumulative 2025 NCLEX first-time pass rate is 88.6 percent, exceeding the state's required benchmark.

- Peer Support - Join our peer mentorship programs where you can connect with upperclassmen who provide insight, advice, and support throughout your nursing education.
- Clinical Preparation - We offer specialized support to prepare you for your clinicals, from clinical skills labs to simulation experiences, ensuring that you're ready when it's time to enter the field.
- NCLEX Preparation - To help you succeed in the NCLEX exam, we provide targeted prep courses, study groups, and access to resources that will ensure you're fully prepared when the time comes.
Admission Requirements for the School of Nursing
Minimum GPA
A GPA of 3.0 or higher is required for admission into the nursing program.
Academic Progress
Students must meet all academic milestones during their pre-nursing coursework to be eligible for the nursing program.
Core Courses
A strong foundation in science and general education courses is essential to success in the nursing program.
Step 1: Apply to UTPB
If you’re not already a UTPB student, your first step is to apply and be admitted to the University. You must be enrolled at UTPB before submitting a Nursing application.
Step 2: Meet Eligibility Requirements
- Minimum overall GPA of 3.0
- Grade of B or higher in NURS 3362 – Theory
- Grade of B or higher in NURS 3368 – Pathophysiology
- TEAS exam score of 70% or higher (Reading, Math, Science)
- TEAS scores must be sent directly from ATI to UTPB School of Nursing
Step 3: Register for the TEAS Exam
- Register through ATI Testing
- Aim for a score of 70% or higher
- Select “U of TX Permian Basin BSN” as the recipient
- Ensure scores are submitted no later than June 1
- Retake policy: max 2 attempts per cycle, with 30 days between attempts

Step 4: Prepare Your Materials
Before the application opens on February 1, gather:
- Unofficial transcripts
- List of completed and in-progress prerequisites
- TEAS confirmation and ATI submission verification
- Any additional requested documents
Step 5: Submit Your Application (Feb 1– Jun 1)
- Access the application link on the UTPB School of Nursing website
- Fill out all required information
- Confirm GPA and grades for required courses
- Enter TEAS exam info and verify ATI submission
- Upload necessary documents
- Submit by June 1
- Save your confirmation for records
Step 6: Application Review Process
After the deadline, the Nursing Admissions Committee will review each application based on GPA, TEAS scores, completion of required courses, and prerequisites.
Step 7: Decision Notification
All applicants will be notified via UTPB email by June 15. Outcomes include:
- Acceptance
- Waitlist/Deferment
- Denial
Step 8: If Offered Admission
- Formally accept your offer within 7 days to secure your spot. If we don’t hear from you, your offer may be withdrawn and extended to someone on the waitlist.
- Complete clinical onboarding (immunizations, CPR, background check, etc.)
- Stay in contact with your advisor and the School of Nursing for orientation details
Step 9: If Not Offered Admission
- Meet with an advisor to strengthen your next application
- Review GPA or TEAS score areas that can be improved
- Reapply during the next cycle
