Your Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from UT Permian Basin School of Nursing prepares you for success as a valued nursing professional within an occupation that is consistently in high demand.
Are you ready to begin your journey in nursing? Here are five important factors you should consider when selecting a nursing school.
Factor #1 - Faculty/Student relationships and class size
The University of Texas Permian Basin’s School of Nursing faculty and staff truly care about the nursing students. They spend time helping students fully understand the material. Classes are a good size for students to have focused attention from their professors.
School of Nursing Chair, Jesica Naiman, stated, “Students know it’s not just about a test. They want to be the very best nursing professionals they possibly can be.” Naiman added, “These nursing students invest their time and energy into study sessions, even when those gatherings turned virtual due to the COVID pandemic. These nursing professionals never stopped, and I am extremely proud of them.”
Factor #2 - NCLEX first-time pass rates
The National Council Licensure Examination, more commonly known as NCLEX, is the exam nursing students must pass after graduation in order to become a Registered Nurse (RN).
The University of Texas Permian Basin nursing graduates continue to raise the bar with the Fall 2020 class of graduates surpassing the national (86.57%) and Texas (92.90%) NCLEX pass rate averages with a 94% first-attempt success rate. The Spring 2021 Cohort is currently taking their NCLEX exams and these nursing graduates are also on an impressive pass rate of 91.7%.
Factor #3 - Program cost and available financial aid
UT Permian Basin is one of the most affordable universities in Texas. And UT Permian Basin wants to make sure that a money issue is never a reason that keeps a student from attending college. Financial Aid representatives help students figure out a financial solution by researching scholarships, loans, and grants that will make it possible for the student to attend UT Permian Basin.
A scholarship can be the difference between a student being able to complete their studies or not. To ensure our community has ample nurses, social workers, athletic trainers, and human performance/kinesiology workers, it is important that scholarship funds are available to continue educational opportunities for students interested in the Health Sciences and Human Performance areas.
Factor #4 - Technology available for hands-on training
The Simulation and Learning Resource Center (SLRC) and Clinical Labs bring classroom information to life for students looking to become more confident and competent in their skills. As students take courses, they solidify textbook knowledge by practicing hands-on learning in a safe, holistic, and supportive environment. Advanced visualization technology, known as the Anatomage table, allows students to digitally explore 3D renderings of anatomy one layer at a time.
Factor #5 - Job placement following graduation
UT Permian Basin School of Nursing graduates are heavily recruited by health care providers locally, statewide, and nationwide. UT Permian Basin nursing students typically have jobs secured by the time they graduate, usually even before. Hospitals, home health agencies, school systems, and other healthcare-related businesses are interested in hiring competent, confident, and enthusiastic nurses who are graduating from the Falcon Nursing program.
