First 5 Program Helps Prepare Children for School
“Research indicates only 50-percent of kindergarteners in Ector County are ready for school,” Dr. Diana Ruiz, the First 5 Permian Basin Director said. “We are on a mission to assure all children are ready and successful their first year of school.”
The University’s First 5 program is partnering with local entities to put on its annual Kinder Camp. Registration is open through Wednesday, June 12th.
Kinder Camp is a week-long kindergarten preparation camp for children entering kindergarten in the fall. The camp focuses on supporting the growth of emotional maturity and social competence in children that have had little to no exposure to formal Pre-K classes. Children are exposed to reading, math, science, and art in a fun, supportive, and safe environment.
Children that attend camp all week are provided with a backpack filled with school supplies and 5 free books to start their own library.
The camp is free. Parents can register their children at the Woodson Boys and Girls Club, 1037 E Murphy St. in Odessa. Space is limited.
