UTPB Campus Construction
The University of Texas Permian Basin will begin a major construction project on Monday, July 28, 2025, that marks the first phase of building a new front entrance for the University and enhancements for the campus quad.

The work will begin at the JBS & Maple Avenue entrance and will continue in phases over the next 16-18 months.

This long-anticipated project is part of UTPB’s continued investment in campus improvements and will impact vehicle access, building entrances, and walking routes across campus.

What to expect starting Monday, July 28:

  1. JBS & Maple Avenue entrance will be CLOSED
  1. Parking lots near the Welcome Center and Library will be CLOSED
  1. Entrances to the Welcome Center and west side of the Library will be CLOSED (alternative access to both facilities is available)

If you need to visit Admissions, Student Accounts, Financial Aid, Advising, Registrar, or Career Services please park in the Mesa Building lot facing 42nd Street (the building with University logos on the front). Walk through to the central courtyard and follow the posted campus signage to reach your destination.

Walking Trail Update:

Construction will also affect part of the campus walking trail that runs along the west side of the
Library and Welcome Center.

Community members who use the trail are encouraged to follow new posted routes that will help guide walkers and joggers around the construction zones.

The updated route will be an abbreviated circle, utilizing Preston Smith Road (in front of student housing and near the art building and tennis facilities). Safety is a top priority throughout the project. The University appreciates the public’s flexibility as this work progresses and encourages trail users to stay alert and respect all posted detours.

Best Campus Access Points During Construction

To help ease navigation during construction, please use the following entrance points depending on your destination:

  • To access Kirk, Art Building, Gym, SAC, Residence and Dining Halls: use the 42nd & Preston Smith Road entrance
  • To access Mesa Building: use 42nd Street or the JBS Parkway entrance across from Market Street
  • To access On-Campus Apartments, Parker Ranch House, Science & Technology Building, Library, and STEM Academy: use the University Boulevard & UTPB Main Road entrance

This transformative project is a critical part of UTPB’s efforts to enhance the student and visitor experience for years to come. Updates will be shared regularly as changes to access points and walking paths occur.

Thank you for your patience as we work toward creating a space that will benefit and inspire our entire community.
