Sociology Programs

Asking the essential questions about the societies we live in.

Technology and social media have connected us more than ever, which has, in turn, led to drastic changes in society. If the way societies evolve and grow fascinates you and you’d love to know how to interpret or predict change, a sociology major may be for you. In our increasingly diverse world, the study of sociology equips students with 21st century marketable skills, including: critical and analytical thinking, working as a team member, gathering and interpreting data, problem-solving, conveying complex information and ideas.

UT Permian Basin offers two paths to earn a B.A. in Sociology—face-to-face and online. In our program you will explore social institutions, cultural dynamics, and the different processes of social interaction. Our students learn to step outside of themselves and make connections between the life and environment of other people in the same and in different cultures.

What can I do with a Sociology degree?

As a graduate with a sociology degree, you will be able to apply analytical and communication skills to real world problems. Everything people engage in life has social implications. Studying sociology offers valuable preparation for careers in diverse disciplines such as: business, social services, journalism, politics, public relations, criminal justice, healthcare, HR, or public administration. Employers are looking for people who can think creatively about problems and leverage diversity to achieve success.
