Federal Work-Study provides part-time jobs for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay educational expenses. 

Prerequisites

Eligibility

The office of Financial Aid and Scholarships will determine your eligibility for Work-Study based on your financial need and the aid you are already receiving. 

Note: If a student's aid changes, it may affect the originally determined eligibility amount or status. 

How to Apply

  • Access the work study application instructions below
  • Monitor your student email for updates and next step 
  1. If it is determined that you are ineligible, you will receive a notification from The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.
  2. If it is determined that you are eligible, you will be added to the pool of candidates for employers to choose from. Work Study Supervisors will reach out to students for interviews.

Note: Submitting a work study application does not guarantee a work study award offer, nor an interview.

On campus vs off campus

On campus positions are available in different departments around the university. If you work off campus, your employer will be on of our partner nonprofit organizations.

What if I am not eligible or hired?
Students can apply for a new academic year to be considered.

How much will I be paid?
Pay for Federal Work Study will be $12/hr this year. Maximum award is based on a student's need.

How will I be paid?

Unlike other types of financial aid, work-study earnings are not applied directly to your student bill. Students receive a paycheck via mail or direct deposit, based on hours worked, just like a a normal job. 

Can I work as many hours as I want? 

No. the amount you earn can't exceed your total Federal Work-Study award.

  • When assigning work hours, your employer will consider your class schedule.
  • Students can work a maximum of 19.5 hours per week.
