Taiwanese-Canadian violist Catherine Chen is an avid orchestra and chamber musician, and has performed at various venues in the United States, Canada, and Taiwan. She is a member of the Midland-Odessa Symphony and Abilene Philharmonic, and is also principal viola of the Lubbock Symphony for their 2018-2019 season. Catherine also enjoys teaching, and joined the music faculty at The University of Texas Permian Basin as the viola instructor in September 2018.

Catherine is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree at Texas Tech University under the tutelage of Dr. Kimberly Sparr. She also holds a Masters of Music degree from Rice University and a Bachelors of Music degree from McGill University, where she studied with James Dunham and Andre Roy respectively. She has participated in summer festivals such as the Aspen Music Festival, Toronto Summer Music Festival, and Casalmaggiore International Music Festival.
