Dr. Tyson Voigt currently serves as Director of Percussion Studies at The University of Texas Permian Basin. He is an avid orchestral, chamber, and contemporary musician whose performances range from the latest avant-garde to early music classics, frequently including cross-genre and interdisciplinary collaborations. His recent engagements include the Midland/Odessa Symphony and Chorale, Big Spring Symphony Orchestra, Permian Playhouse, Basin Brass Band, Principal Percussion for The Orchestra Now in New York, the Sebastians Period Ensemble in conjunction with the professional choir Seraphic Fire, Unbound Improv Ensemble, and the soprano/percussion Resound Duo. The Resound Duo focuses on commissions and premieres of new works concerning social topics and dramatic performance. For example, Scott McAllister’s Little Jagged Jesus explores the inner spiritual struggle of a cancer patient, and their recent premiere Majkas by Jose Puello examines sexism through the lens of motherhood. Tyson also enjoys performing with various friends and collaborators in the Permian Basin area, teaching his tremendous students, and spending time with his family.
