Faces of UTPB: Campus Quad
The big grassy knoll in the center of campus, more commonly known as the “quad,” is an important “face” of UTPB, and it will soon receive a facelift of its own.
The quad first started to come to life in the early 2000’s after the library was constructed. The big grass field used to be where commencement ceremonies would take place on campus. Over the years, student life activities have been held on the field as well as other campus events.
Now, as we look to the future the quad will soon be transformed into a place where UTPB students, faculty, staff, and our community can enjoy our campus. The quad will turn into Fiona’s Court. Our new Falcon statue (Fiona) will be displayed there to oversee the happenings (more on the Fiona statue to come in a future story).
Fiona’s court will feature the same limestone that we see at Stonehenge with a stage in the center for performances for everything from ballet folklorico to slam poetry to acoustic sets and lectures. There will also be a food court with giant TV screens to catch your favorite sporting events; native plants, water, and fire features. Our water features will also be important for sustainability by capturing water when it rains to use throughout campus.
Construction on the new Fiona’s Court is set to break ground in spring 2024!
