UTPB student Alexa Nease earned a $15,000 scholarship from the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board, fueling her passion for business and accounting while inspiring others to chase their goals.

“While I’m not sure exactly what the future holds, the foundations I have gained here at UTPB will allow me to create a bigger and brighter future for myself, no matter where that takes me.”

Meet Alexa Nease, who was recently awarded a $15,000 scholarship from the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board. A few professors from The University of Texas Permian Basin nominated Alexa for this scholarship, and this was not something she was expecting.

“Honestly, I was a little taken aback,” Alexa said. “Being selected for such a competitive award was a little overwhelming in a good way. You never really expect something like that.”

Nease’s long-term goal is to open and manage businesses, and she especially loves the accounting side of it. Her mother, Catherine Nease, has been her biggest supporter. As a bookkeeper herself, she has spent countless hours teaching her the basic techniques, which is what interested Nease initially.

At UTPB, Dr. Counts has been an influential mentor, and she credits him for her positive experience as a Falcon, which is why she recommends UTPB to those seeking higher education. Nease shares UTPB has provided her the tools to feel more confident going into her future, and she’s felt deeply supported every step of the way.

If you’re a student with the same long-term goals or applying for scholarships, Alexa says hard work will get you there.

“Give your best to achieve your dreams, and more doors will open than you think,” Alexa said.
