Art students at The University of Texas Permian Basin are making their mark with award winning work featured in a competitive regional exhibition.

Two students from The University of Texas Permian Basin have their work featured in the Midland Art Association Annual Fall Exhibition. Out of 136 submitted pieces, only 72 were accepted, showing just how talented and dedicated these students are.

Amaya Villanueva at the on-campus library. Congratulations to Amaya Villanueva, a UTPB senior majoring in Fine Arts, for having three pieces accepted and earning Second Place in Painting, Honorable Mention in Painting, and Second Place in Drawing.

“I feel reassured that I’m in the right place and doing what I am called to do,” Amaya said. “It also motivates me to keep growing my skills and strive for better.”

This is Amaya’s first exhibition outside of UTPB, and she’s thrilled to have been accepted. As a native Odessan, she says UTPB has given her a place to pursue her dreams while staying close to family. She credits her professors for their guidance and support, saying they have helped her grow as an artist.

Judith Guerra at the on-campus library. Congratulations also go to Judith Guerra, a UTPB junior majoring in Fine Arts and pursuing her Teacher Certification, for having two works accepted and receiving Honorable Mention for one of her ceramic pieces.

“It’s an honor to be among those selected, especially knowing the high caliber of talent in the Midland-Odessa area,” Judith said. “It’s also a great motivator to keep pushing my boundaries and refining my skills.”

Judith chose UTPB to stay close to home and because she knew the University offered an outstanding fine arts program with dedicated faculty members. She says the program allows students the freedom to explore different mediums and think creatively.

Judith plans to continue working hard and pushing the boundaries of what she can create with clay and other materials.
