Meet UTPB's third Head Football Coach.

The University of Texas Permian Basin welcomes Chris Softley as the third Head Football Coach of the Falcons.

Coach Softley comes to UTPB after serving as the Head Football Coach and Athletic Director at Lubbock Christian School, where he was a State Champion and was named Texas Coach of the Year.

Just as important, he is deeply committed to developing men of character, preparing them not only for victories on the field, but for life beyond football.”

Adding to Softley’s success, he oversaw 31 Final Four appearances and 10 State Championships across six team sports at Lubbock Christian. As a Defensive Graduate Assistant Coach at Abilene Christian University from 2008 to 2010, Softley was responsible for in-game adjustments and helped coach the team to the Lone Star Conference Championship and its first undefeated regular season since 1950.

Softley is no stranger to West Texas and values this community. There was strong local support at his introductory press conference, including Head Football Coaches from numerous high schools across the Permian Basin.

Softley said the Falcons had a phenomenal season and he is ready to continue that success.

“I think you want to ride that wave for sure, and you want to let recruits know that this is not a program to come play average Division II football,” Softley said. “This is a program where we want to win championships.”
