“I was able to quit two of those jobs and use that time to get an internship.”
From working three jobs to focusing fully on her future, Kinzee Jamierson says Impact Healthcare changed her academic journey.
Kinzee is a third-semester nursing student at The University of Texas Permian Basin. She plans to become a NICU or pediatric nurse.
Those goals are now within reach thanks to Impact Healthcare, a $25,000 scholarship awarded over four years. Through a partnership with the Permian Strategic Partnership, UTPB offers scholarships to students pursuing nursing and other pre-health fields, including pre-med, pre-dental, and pre-pharmacy.
“When I came to UTPB, I was working three full-time jobs, trying to make ends meet, and living in the dorms,” Kinzee said. “After I got into the nursing program and received the Impact Healthcare scholarship, I was able to quit two of those jobs and use that time to get an internship.”
That shift created new opportunities, both professionally and personally.
“I’ve been able to gain experience in the field,” she said. “I’ve also been able to buy a house, buy a car, and improve my financial situation.”
Kinzee says her coursework is also preparing her for what comes next.
“We’re getting an accurate representation of clinical experiences in the SIM lab, in the classroom, and in lectures,” she said.
She credits the support system at UTPB as a key part of her success.
“Impact has helped my academics so much, especially because of the faculty who lead it. Cassie Hernandez has shown up for us in every way,” Kinzee said. “I love UTPB because it’s so tight-knit. It really feels like a community.”
Kinzee is set to graduate in December 2026 and looks forward to a career caring for children.
“I love kids,” she said. “They bring so much light into life. Their imagination is incredible, and they’re so resilient.”
