Dr. Babcock's work has helped shape opportunities for undergraduate researchers while bringing national attention to UTPB's contributions in writing and literacy studies.
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Rebecca Babcock, William and Ordelle Watts Professor of English at UTPB, on being selected as the 2026 plenary speaker for the Naylor Workshop on Undergraduate Research in Writing Studies, a national workshop that brings together undergraduate students and leading scholars from across the country to advance research in writing, rhetoric and literacy.
Dr. Babcock was selected in recognition of her academic contributions, dedication to literacy education, and longstanding commitment to undergraduate research. A supporter of the Naylor Workshop since its beginning, she has mentored student researchers and helped advance the workshop's mission of making undergraduate research more accessible and impactful.
Dr. Babcock teaches writing and linguistics at UTPB and has authored, co-authored, and edited numerous books on writing centers, tutoring, disability, and research methods.
Her scholarship extends beyond writing studies into West Texas culture, music, and history. Her recent book, Boom or Bust: Life, Narrative, and Culture from the West Texas Oil Patch, co-edited with Sheena Stief and Kristen Figgins, was supported by a National Endowment for the Humanities grant. She is also leading projects that expand access to undergraduate research, develop open educational resources, and engage veterans through literature.
Congratulations to Dr. Babcock on this well-deserved honor. We are proud to see her representing UTPB and inspiring the next generation of researchers.
