Ring Symbolism

The university emblem atop the Official UT Permian Basin Ring distinguishes every Falcon graduate with a symbol rooted in West Texas heritage and academic purpose. Encircled by the words The University of Texas Permian Basin, the central Lone Star honors UT Permian Basin’s place within the proud UT System. Surrounding it, the laurel and oak wreaths signify achievement, wisdom, and the perseverance required to reach graduation. These elements together reflect the spirit of UT Permian Basin: resilient, ambitious, and guided by knowledge.

One side of the ring features the historic Mesa Building, the first academic structure ever built at UT Permian Basin. For years, it stood alone against the West Texas horizon, serving as the heart of campus and the starting point for thousands of Falcon journeys. The Mesa Building represents beginnings, determination, and the early vision that shaped the university. Beneath it, the founding year 1973 anchors every graduate to the institution’s origins and its continued growth.

The opposite side of the ring honors each graduate’s Field of Study or Field of Interest, portrayed through customizable academic imagery. This panel celebrates the discipline that shaped the student’s path; whether business, engineering, nursing, the arts, education, or any of UTPB’s diverse programs. These symbols recognize the focus and passion each Falcon brings into their chosen career and future.

Combined, these elements create the Official UT Permian Basin Ring, a reflection of the university’s legacy and a celebration of every graduate’s dedication, growth, and achievement. It stands as a lasting reminder of the standards upheld, the memories made, and the Falcon pride carried into every new horizon.
