Prospective Students

You can add a Secondary STEM Education minor to almost ANY degree!

One Degree = Two Career Options

UTeach Permian Basin is designed to give you the opportunity to explore the profession of teaching in a hands-on way. In your very first semester in the program, you will have the opportunity to develop and teach a lesson in a local classroom. You can major in math and science and pursue UTeach Permian teacher certification preparation.

Certification Areas

  • Mid-Level Certification (4-8 Math/Science)
  • Secondary Certification (7-12 STEM)

UTeach Financial Opportunities

Tuition Reimbursement: In partnership with the UTeach program and Permian Strategic Partnership (PSP), UTeach Permian Basin is able to reimburse the first course at no cost to you with UTPB’s UTeach tuition reimbursement opportunity.

Internships: Students complete a paid internship as part of the program and complete a bachelor’s degree in a science or mathematics field in four years, while simultaneously earning a secondary teacher certification.

Student Workers: Students can apply to be a tutor at a K-12 campus and earn up to $15 per hour, working up to 19.5 hours per week.

Criminal Background Check

A criminal background check will be required to complete your field hours and clinical teaching to receive a certificate. A full background check with fingerprinting will be required before clinical teaching. If you cannot successfully complete a criminal background check, you will not be able to certify or to gain a job as a teacher in the state of Texas. You have the right to review the results of this check. Conviction of an offense can make you ineligible for the issuance of a certificate on completion of the certification program.
