Graduate Assistantship

• Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA): Provides direct support for the teaching mission of the department
• Graduate Research Assistant (GRA): Performs duties related to a scholarly project or research under the guidance of a faculty member
• Graduate Administrative Assistant (GAA): Works in a capacity not related to his/her program of study and not engaged in activities directly related to research or teaching. Many GAA’s are hired by non-academic departments on campus.

*Please note:  Graduate assistants assigned to GAA positions will be taxed differently from those assigned as GTA’s or GRA’s. 

• Must be fully admitted into a graduate degree program
• Must be a full time graduate student
• Must maintain a GPA of at least 3.00

• Work up to 19.5 hours per work in assigned department or area
• Adhere to professional standards of work
• Maintain confidentiality of records

• All GA’s gain valuable work experience and receive professional development.
• GRA’s and GTA’s receive a tuition remission plus a stipend.

• Download and complete the Graduate Assistantship Application.
• Completed applications are encouraged to be submitted by June 1 or November 1 for each academic semester.
• The submission of a completed application is required, along with a resume to gradstudies@utpb.edu and the individual program coordinators for your program/department (see below for the list)
