Applying as an International Student

All transcripts, certificates, diplomas, and degrees must be translated and evaluated by a *credential and transcript evaluation service and sent directly to the Admissions Office. Make sure to submit all the required paperwork at least 120 days prior to the beginning of the semester of admissions. If documents are written in a language other than English, a complete and official English translation must be provided. Each transcript (mark sheet) should contain a complete record of studies at the institution from which it is issued (i.e. the subjects taken and grades (marks) earned in each subject.)

Test-Optional Policy 2024-2025

The SAT and ACT Exams are optional for the 2024-2025 school year. Test scores will be used as supporting documents to determine admission and scholarship opportunities.

Students will be reviewed on a holistic basis focusing on the strength of the high school record, overall grade point average, grades within the core subjects, dual credit work, and additional information (resume and/or extracurricular activities, leadership opportunities, and work experience provided with the ApplyTexas application). We also recognize the value of standardized tests as a piece of the review process and will consider them alongside the other required application credentials, if provided.

UT Permian Basin evaluates credit only from generally accepted academic institutions with regional accreditation. Transfer Students with 24 or more semester hours of college work must:

• have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 (C) on a 4.0 grading system.
• be eligible to re-enroll in the colleges previously attended.
• show evidence of having received the Bacterial Meningitis vaccination or qualified exemption. (Students who are 22 years of age or older or planning to take online courses only (no campus-based courses) are exempt.)

International students whose native language is not English must submit proof of English language proficiency. Please provide evidence of proficiency-based on one of the test scores listed below. The scores must be official and come to the Admissions Office (admissions@utpb.edu) directly from the testing service.

• TOEFL: Minimum score for admission consideration is 79(iBT) or 550 (pBT). Information concerning the TOEFL may be obtained by writing to TOEFL, Box 899, Princeton, NJ 08540 (The University of Texas of the Permian Basin institution number: 6914)
• IELTS: A minimum score of 6.5 band score with 6.0 in each subsection. Send your IELTS scores to admissions@utpb.edu
• Duolingo English Test (DET) Scores: A minimum DET score of 100, sent directly to UTPB Admissions from the testing center or use institutional number: 276692

1. Copy of passport for the applicant as well as for any dependents (spouse, child). This is only needed if seeking an I-20 for an F-1 Visa.
2. Financial Support form with proof of resources
   • All fees are subject to change. For dependents to be included on the I-20AB, add $4,000 per academic year for your spouse and $4,500 per academic year for each child. Spouses of F-1 visa holders are not permitted to work in the U.S. under any circumstances.
3. Transfer Documents (I-20)
   • If you are an international transfer student from another U.S. college or university, you must have the college/university transfer your I-20 to U.T. Permian Basin.

All international students on a non-immigrant (F-1) visa status attending UT Permian Basin are required by the UT System Board of Regents to have continuous medical insurance policy compliant with the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).

The UT Student Health Insurance Plan (UT SHIP) meets the new requirements. Enrollment in UT SHIP is automatic each semester and the insurance premium is automatically charged to your tuition and fee account when you register for classes. No action is required to be enrolled in UT SHIP except to ensure that your contact email and mailing address are always current in MyUTPB.

The UT System has established criteria by which an international student can request a waiver to the student health insurance plan by providing alternate health insurance coverage. In order to be approved for a waiver, your alternate health coverage must meet or exceed the requirements as set in the System regulation and be PPACA compliant.
