The University of Texas Permian Basin is thrilled to announce a new partnership with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas and National Fitness Campaign (NFC). The collaboration brings an outdoor Fitness Court Studio and digital wellness programming to UTPB's campus. The Fitness Court Studio is conveniently located on the University’s walking trails, across the street from the Stonehenge replica, and is open to the public.
This new Fitness Court Studio was developed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, UTPB, and NFC to expand free access to high-quality workouts. The outdoor Fitness Court delivers a powerful seven-minute full body workout on one side and a versatile outdoor class area for yoga, zumba, pilates and other popular group wellness activities on the opposite side.
Created with people aged 14 and over and with all abilities in mind, the workouts are adaptable for all fitness levels, allowing participants to move at their own pace. Users are encouraged to download the free Fitness Court App which enhances the outdoor gym into a digitally supported wellness experience.
“On average, one in two adults don’t have enough aerobic physical activity in their day-to-day lives, which can lead to chronic, yet preventable, conditions,” said Sheena Payne, director of community affairs at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas. “Helping fund these Fitness Courts is just one more way we can work toward all Texans having access to optimal health outcomes right in their own community.”
UT Permian Basin is one of 20 outdoor Fitness Courts in a series of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas Fitness Courts that will be constructed in easily accessible public spaces this year.
"This partnership reflects our commitment to creating a healthy and vibrant campus. We are excited to provide our students, staff, and the broader community with this innovative and accessible wellness resources," said UTPB President, Dr. Sandra Woodley.
“National Fitness Campaign is proud to welcome the University of Texas at Permian Basin to the campaign as a leader in Texas, championing health and wellness for their campus community,” said Mitch Menaged, founder of National Fitness Campaign. “The addition of the Fitness Court Studio, along with digital wellness programming, demonstrates a tremendous commitment to the health and wellbeing within the community.”
