“UTPB has essentially opened the door for my career,” Aaron Solano, a senior at The University of Texas Permian Basin, said.
Whether it’s your first time in college or you’re ready to finish what you started, UTPB is the place to chase your dreams.
If you’ve completed 24 or more semester hours of college-level coursework, you’re eligible to apply as a transfer student. This path is designed for students currently enrolled at another college or university, or those who have previously earned credits and want to continue their education.
Aaron began his journey at Midland College before transferring to UTPB in 2021.
“I chose UTPB because I wanted to experience college and receive my bachelor’s degree without having to drown myself in debt to do so,” Aaron said.
Aaron said starting his journey at a community college was the best choice for him because it allowed him to minimize tuition costs while pursuing a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
Areej Khodair took a similar path and says it strengthened her confidence and overall college experience.

“It gives you the chance to save money, explore your interests, and build a strong academic foundation before transitioning to a university,” Areej said. “Don’t underestimate that experience; it prepares you more than you realize.”
UTPB is committed to making the transfer process simple and accessible. Through partnerships with community colleges, like Odessa College and Midland College, students can transfer seamlessly and stay on track.
“Whenever I had any questions or doubts, I could reach out to my Midland College advisor, and they were able to help me,” Areej said. “Additionally, there was a UTPB transfer specialist on the Midland College campus, which was super helpful.”
“The whole process consisted of me sending an official transcript and simply waiting for my confirmation of being accepted, super easy,” Aaron Solano said. “It was a huge relief.”
While Midland College gave Aaron a strong foundation, he says UTPB helped him take the next step to his future.
“Since coming to UTPB, I have learned how to manage my time wisely, invest in log-term goals, and am currently reaching the start of my engineering career,” Aaron said.
Areej says UTPB has developed her skills in time management and resilience for her future career.
“Coming to UTPB has been a major turning point in both my academic journey and my future career goals,” Areej said. “It gave me the opportunity to build on the strong foundation I developed in community college while challenging myself at a higher level.”
