“This student research day clearly shows that UTPB is beyond the classroom experience."
The University of Texas Permian Basin will highlight student achievement during UTPB Research Day, an event that showcases undergraduate and graduate research across campus. Hosted by the Office of Student Research, the event emphasizes hands-on learning and faculty mentorship beyond the classroom.
“The mission of the Office of Student Research is to create opportunities for students, both undergraduate and graduate students, to actively engage in research activities. Our ultimate goal is to build a strong research culture at UTPB,” Dr. Behzad Behnia, Director of the Office of Student Research, said.
He added that student involvement in research strengthens academic performance and professional preparation.
“The undergraduate students who have been involved in research have had much better academic performance, they work closely with faculty mentors, they work on cool projects, and it improves their resume,” Dr. Behnia said.
Graduate student Daniel Jurado, who is pursuing his Master’s in Clinical Psychology, is studying the effects of alcohol exposure in children and its long-term impact into adulthood.
“With that research, I’ve been able to get two different research awards within the region,” Jurado said.
Daniel is looking forward to sharing this work with the attendees.
“I think one of the things that interests me within Research Day is to show other classmates or other people in the University the research that we’ve been doing over time,” Daniel said.
Dr. Behnia invites all UTPB students, faculty, staff, and community members to see the success of these Falcons.
“This student research day clearly shows that UTPB is beyond the classroom experience. We offer a lot more, it’s hands-on research, we support students through funding, mentorship, and training.”
UTPB Research Day will be held Friday, April 24, at 9 a.m. in the UTPB Library.
