The University of Texas Permian Basin hosted its annual State of the University event on Wednesday, April 9, at the Odessa Country Club, highlighting a year of incredible growth, student success, and community impact.
During the event, presented by SouthWest Bank, University leadership reflected on major milestones from the past year. They also shared how UT Permian Basin is uniquely positioned to serve the Permian Basin by driving workforce development, supporting the energy industry, and advancing innovation across the region.
“This is an exciting time for UT Permian Basin. We are growing, we are evolving, and most importantly, we are staying true to our mission of serving the people of West Texas,” said President Sandra Woodley.
2024-2025 Highlights:
- 1,616 students received free tuition through the Falcon Free program in 2023-2024.
- 70% of UTPB graduates stay and work in the Permian Basin, and 24% of all jobs in the region are linked to the University.
- UTPB ranks in the Top 3 among all UT System institutions for highest median salary of graduates.
- Since its founding, UTPB has produced 30,445 graduates — a 39% increase in graduates since 2016.
- The 2024 Scholarship Ball raised $500,000 to directly support students. The University is also closing in on its $1 million goal for the Champions Fund, with 75% of the target already raised.
- Several campus renovation projects are underway, with more planned in the months ahead.
President Woodley also shared exciting news about an upcoming academic reorganization andplans to rename several colleges to better align with the University’s focus areas and regional workforce needs. Attendees also enjoyed performances from UTPB’s talented music students.
“As we look to the future, UT Permian Basin is committed to being the University for the Permian Basin, driving opportunity, innovation, and economic growth for decades to come,” Woodley said.
