For UTPB alum Eric Franco, those lessons helped shape the person he is today and led him to a career serving others as a firefighter.

“UTPB has forged me into the man I am today,” Eric said. “With the hardships and adversity I faced in my life, if UTPB and football weren’t there to push me, I don’t know where I would be. Each year at UTPB, I learned so much about myself and my career.”

His love for firefighting began at a young age, when he watched firefighters save his brother’s life, who has a heart condition. Seeing them step in during a moment that mattered so much to his family inspired him to help others.

Eric came to UTPB to study Business Management because of the University’s strong programs, affordability, scholarship opportunities, and the chance to play football. What he found went far beyond academics or athletics.

Football became a defining part of his college experience, shaping him mentally and physically while surrounding him with lifelong support.

“I met brothers I will have for life, and I was pushed past what I thought my mind and body were capable of,” Eric said. “I had an accident my junior year that changed my life. I’m thankful for football, my teammates, and my coaches for helping me fight through my injury and shape me into who I am today.”

Looking back, Eric believes UTPB gave him opportunities he may not have found elsewhere, and he's thankful he chose to be a Falcon.

“You will get what you expect and even more from the University,” Eric said.
