- Reporting From the Nest: UTPB Student Launches Falcon News
Bringing you coverage of what’s happening in your neck of the woods, one student at The University of Texas Permian Basin founded Falcon News, a student-run organization.
Heather McBee, a junior at UTPB, created Falcon News in spring 2026 to help others gain experience in media and storytelling. She hopes to become a Meteorologist for the National Weather Service and saw the organization as a way to start building that experience.
“Any student who is interested in media, news, weather, sports, or social media should join,” Heather said. “You don’t need any experience or even a specific major to be part of Falcon News. There’s a place for you here.”
Falcon News aims to keep the campus community informed about important information and events happening around UTPB.
Heather hopes the organization will provide participating students with a way to get involved, meet people in their future industry, and build their résumés while making an impact on campus. She plans to foster opportunities for hands-on experience that build confidence and develop skills they can use later in their careers.
Students interested in joining or keeping up with reports can follow the organization on Instagram at @falcons_news_utpb.
