For many future Falcons, the first stop on campus isn't a classroom or residence hall. It's the Welcome Center.
It's where questions get answered, first impressions are made, and college dreams start to feel real. It's also where visitors meet a friendly face like Anson Brannan.
"The Welcome Center is more than a place to start a campus tour. It's where many students begin imagining their future," said Anson, Assistant Director of Welcome Center & Campus Experiences. "I'm grateful to play a small role in that journey and look forward to welcoming every future Falcon who walks through our doors."
Whether he's leading a tour or chatting with families, Anson and his student workers are there to help visitors picture what life as a Falcon can look like.
"I hope every visitor leaves with a genuine sense of belonging," Anson said. "I want them to feel welcomed, valued, and able to envision themselves as part of the UTPB community."
Although Anson officially joined the UTPB Team on January 15, his Falcon story started years earlier.
A proud Odessa native, he first arrived on campus as a student in 2016 and graduated in 2020. His own experience at UTPB made returning feel like coming home.
"I experienced firsthand the impact this university can have on a student's life," Anson said. "The professors, mentors and experiences I encountered helped shape who I am today. When the opportunity arose to return, it felt like a chance to give back to the university that invested in me."
Now, he's helping the next generation of Falcons take those same first steps.
And sometimes, the moments that leave the biggest impression aren't part of the tour script.
"I'd say one of my favorite memories has been seeing our future Falcons light up when they discovered the family of owls that call our campus home," Anson said. "It reminded me that sometimes it's the little experiences, beyond the tour itself, that help students feel connected to campus and create lasting memories."
