"Each day presented new challenges that required focus, adaptability, and perseverance, and I am grateful for the clarity and endurance I was given to navigate them successfully."
With a passion for serving others, Cosme Casillas knew becoming a school principal was the best way to make a lasting impact.
"Ultimately, my goal is to use the strength, perseverance, and opportunities I have been blessed with to remove barriers, uplift others, and lead with purpose," Cosme said. "Being an educational leader is more than a profession for me. It is a mission and a calling to serve others and make a lasting difference."
Thanks to The University of Texas Permian Basin's Online Principal Certification Program, Cosme is now prepared to take the next step as a school leader.
UTPB's 100% online program includes 28 credit hours of required coursework, two practicum experiences, and a one-credit TExES exam preparation course for most candidates. During the practicum, students receive guidance from both a school-based mentor and UTPB faculty, allowing working professionals to gain meaningful leadership experience while balancing their careers and other responsibilities.
"Each day presented new challenges that required focus, adaptability, and perseverance, and I am grateful for the clarity and endurance I was given to navigate them successfully," Cosme said. "During this time, I collaborated closely with campus leaders and stakeholders, addressing real-world issues while remaining committed to supporting both students and staff."
As he begins this next chapter, Cosme is committed to creating a school environment where every student feels supported, valued and inspired to reach their full potential. He also hopes to empower teachers with the resources and leadership they need to help students succeed.
Congratulations, Cosme! We can't wait to see the difference you'll make in the lives of students, teachers, and your community.
