National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE)
The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) is a nationally recognized instrument that collects data from first-year and senior students about their experiences in college. It focuses on how students spend their time, what they gain from their college experience, and how they engage with learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. The survey assesses key areas such as academic challenge, learning with peers, faculty interaction, and campus environment—all of which are critical indicators of effective teaching and learning.
The University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) participates in NSSE to better understand and improve the student experience. By gathering direct input from students, UTPB can evaluate the effectiveness of its programs and services, benchmark against peer institutions, and identify areas for strategic improvement. The data serves as a foundation for decision-making at all levels, supporting initiatives to enhance student engagement, learning outcomes, retention, and graduation rates.
Participation in NSSE reflects UTPB’s ongoing commitment to student-centered education and continuous improvement.
