Office of Student Research
Launched in August 2025, the Office of Student Research (OSR) empowers UT Permian Basin students—undergraduate and graduate alike—to take part in meaningful research and creative work in every discipline. Led by Director Dr. Behzad Behnia and reporting to Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Rajalingam Dakshinamurthy, OSR connects students to projects with real impact.

Mission
The mission of the Office of Student Research at UT Permian Basin is to expand research opportunities and create an environment where students can actively participate in research and creative work across all disciplines. OSR is committed to supporting student success by providing mentorship, resources, and hands-on experiences that strengthen academic excellence, encourage innovation, and help students develop as critical thinkers and problem-solvers ready to face real-world challenges. All student research opportunities should be designed to support the pedagogical goals and the research mission of the university.
Vision
The vision of OSR is to establish UTPB as a leading institution in promoting student-centered research. OSR envisions to make research opportunities accessible for all students such that every student has the chance to engage in original, meaningful, impactful research. By creating opportunities for students to explore new ideas, collaborate with faculty, and strengthening students problem-solving and professional skills, OSR strives to train future leaders, scholars, and professionals who make a lasting impact locally, nationally, and globally.
