Humanities Bachelor's Degree
Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Humanities
The Humanities degree is designed for self-motivated students who seek interdisciplinary studies in arts, literature, and the social sciences. Instead of pursuing a traditional major, the Humanities student works with a faculty advisor to create an individualized plan of study connecting disciplines by specializing in a topic set, problems, or a specific perspective. This approach typically replaces a traditional major and minor.

Degree Requirements
- The B.A. in Humanities requires a minimum of 120 total credit hours.
- All required and elective courses must be completed with a grade of "C-" or better.
Humanities Major Requirements
- Humanities Core: Students are required to complete 30 lower-division semester credit hours. Those courses include History 2321 and 2322 or their equivalents, two upper-level English courses and two courses in either Communication or a foreign language. Students are also required to complete four lower-level courses in Art, Drama, or Music, or HUMA 4301.
- Upper-Division Humanities Fields: In addition, students must take at least 24 upper-division units. The courses are to be dispersed among Art, Communication, English, History, Music, Spanish, or another Humanities-related disciplines (for example a foreign language, Philosophy, or Religious Studies, upon consultation with the program head). Students must enroll in at least two but no more than four fields, and in at least two courses in each chosen field.
- Capstone/Senior Seminar Course: A student must complete a 4000-level seminar-style course in a Humanities-related discipline. This may also be a 6000-level course or a contract-study course.
The courses are to be dispersed among Art, Communication, English, History, Music, Spanish, or another Humanities-related discipline (for example a foreign language, Philosophy, or Religious Studies, upon consultation with the program head). Students must enroll in at least two, but no more than four, fields and in at least two courses in each chosen field.
