The University of Texas Permian Basin is proud to welcome attendees to the inaugural Permian Basin Water in Energy Conference February 20th – 23rd at the Midland County Horseshoe Arena. This exciting new Water in Energy Conference is being held in the heart of the Permian Basin in both Odessa and Midland.
This UT Permian Basin co-sponsored energy conference will highlight innovation and facilitate discussions related to water in energy in the Permian Basin. Keynote speakers include Kirk Edwards, president and CEO of Latigo Petroleum will discuss The Permian on the Worldwide Stage: Using the Best Technology (and Texas Mojo) to Recover and Protect Our Resources, State Senator Charles Perry, chair of the Committee on Agriculture, Water and Rural Affairs and Dr. Sandra Woodley, president of UT Permian Basin.
Conference speakers will include industry leaders working in both Texas and New Mexico, representatives from groundwater districts and the state legislature and other public entities such as the Texas Railroad Commission and University Lands. Topics for discussion will range from industry case-studies and cutting-edge technology to continuing education opportunities for engineers.
Without question, more changes have occurred in the petroleum energy sector in the past decade than in the last 100 years. The Permian Basin Water in Energy Conference (PBWIEC) will explore the latest technologies for the future of water exploration, extraction, transportation, storage, enhanced drilling, and disposal.
The PBWIEC will bring together leaders and visionaries from industry, government, community, and the private sector who are looking at the water value chain in a holistic way. These experts will speak about and debate the development of these complex changes, which are redefining the future of energy in the USA.
Conference Events:
- The conference begins at 5:45 PM, Tuesday, February 20 with an opening reception and pre-registration at the Petroleum Museum. This social networking session will include keynote speaker Michael Webber, deputy director of the University of Texas Energy Institute.
Webber’s recent book Thirst for Power: Energy, Waterand Human Survival addresses the connection between earth’s energy resources and offers a hopeful approach for a sustainable future. He has authored more than 300 publications, produced a television special on energy, and holds four energy patents. - On Wednesday, February 21st through
Friday February 23rd, the conference continues at the Midland County Horseshoe Arena with a series of specialized talks by top executives in leading water management, energy companiesand related industries. There are several panels of experts who will openly discuss topicsincluding: supply challenges, recycling, midstream, and treatment.
Other topics will be: source and supply, reuse and recycling, law and legislation, evolving midstream business, emerging technology, gathering and disposal, the big picture. - On Friday there will be opportunities for ethics seminars with continuing education (CEU). The conference also includes several opportunities for networking with other professionals.
As a university co-sponsor, we are proud to encourage the next generation of energy leaders by displaying student research as part of our three-day program. Throughout the conference, there will be three academic poster sessions offering UTPB students and faculty a chance to present samples of their scholarly research relating to water in the petroleum industry.
