This afternoon, 39 people representing The University of Texas Permian Basin will arrive in New York City to prepare for a performance at Carnegie Hall. 33 students will sing this Saturday in this world-renowned venue. The diverse group of students includes many music majors but also represents other disciplines from all across campus including nursing, engineering, business, kinesiology, psychology and more.
The invitation to perform in Carnegie Hall is an important milestone for the University and the UT Permian Basin music program which began in 2004. Since that time, the music program, which is housed at the Wagner Noël Performing Arts Center, has grown to a projected 100 majors in the fall. The Carnegie invitation correlates with national recognition for the music program in general and the choral program in particular.
"The invitation to conduct in Carnegie is something serious conductors work toward their whole careers. I am honored to lead the serious musicians and fantastic people that make up the UTPB choirs, and I am so excited to be leading them in performance on the world's most prestigious stage," said Dr. Frank Eychaner, Director of Choral Activities at UT Permian Basin.
