The University of Texas Permian Basin is proud to announce another community partnership. The University received a generous gift from Mr. J. L. Davis of Midland, Texas for $500,000. This donation will be directed toward the Chemical Engineering program which will be housed on the third floor of the new, state-of-the-art UT Permian Basin Engineering Building.
A Midland native of more than 50 years, J. L. Davis has diverse enterprises predominately in mid-stream and down-stream energy activities, plus other interests including banking, aviation, wholesale and retail fuel activities, and convenience store locations.
“Over the years we have employed a number of accounting or other related degrees from UT Permian Basin in our Midland office, including several engineering graduates,” said Davis. “The addition of the Chemical Engineering program is a great step.”
“The University owes a heartfelt debt of gratitude to Mr. Davis for his tremendous generosity and visionary thinking,” said Sandra Woodley, president of UT Permian Basin. “This donation will help strengthen our faculty and shape the lives of our students for generations to come.”
In fall of 2019, engineering students at UT Permian Basin will begin classes in the brand new, 94,000 square foot, College of Engineering building located on the University’s Midland campus near the Center for Energy and Economic Diversification (CEED) and the Wagner Noel Performing Arts Center.
A virtual fly-through of the building can be seen on the UTPB Engineering web page.
